Use of your personal data
What is personal data?
Personal data is information that relates to a natural person, such as a name, address or telephone number, but also your bank account number or citizen service number (BSN). If the information can be traced back to a natural person, it constitutes personal data.
Processing of personal data
Processing personal data means collecting, viewing, storing or destroying that data. We also (are required to) retain certain data about former clients. This privacy statement therefore applies to clients, former clients, authorised representatives of clients and, for example, persons who are interested in our services but are not yet clients.
Newsletter and season’s greetings
We send our clients and contacts a digital Christmas and New Year greeting. We also have plans for a digital newsletter. You will only receive this digital information if you have given your consent. To send it to you, we process your e-mail address. If you no longer wish to receive our messages, you can unsubscribe at any time by sending an e-mail to privacy@ske-advocaten.nl. Your data will then be deleted.
Your data will not be passed on to third parties, except to parties that support us in processing the personal data in order to send you this digital information.
Website
You can fill in a contact form on our website. Providing your personal data is not mandatory, but without it we cannot respond to questions submitted via the contact form.
Criminal data
If we assist you as a suspect in a criminal case, we process personal data and criminal data. We process this data on the basis of the Dutch Code of Criminal Procedure. You have also given your consent to this at the start of the engagement. The processing of your personal data is necessary for the performance of the contract of engagement we conclude with you, as we must be able to reach you by post, e-mail and telephone. We are also required to verify your identity under the Bar Regulation (Verordening op de advocatuur) and the Wwft (Dutch Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorist Financing Act), and we process your data because it has been recorded, for example, in an official police report. The processing of your data is therefore (primarily) necessary for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims, namely your defence.
Retention period
We retain your file (and therefore your personal data) for a period of 20 years, in view of the limitation period for liability for professional errors. We then destroy your file.

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have a number of rights with regard to the processing of your personal data. You have the right to access, rectify or erase your personal data. To do so, please make an appointment with your lawyer to visit our office. It is important that you can identify yourself and demonstrate that the data you wish to access, rectify or erase actually relates to you. You may not access data relating to other persons. In certain circumstances you also have the right to data portability, the right to withdraw your consent to the processing of your personal data, and the right to object to the processing of your personal data.
Amendments
This privacy statement may be amended, for example in response to amended or new laws and regulations. If the privacy statement is amended, the new version will be published on our website. If you continue to use our website after the amendment, the new privacy statement will apply to that use.
